Phu Quoc voted Asia’s 6th best island

Phu Quoc off the southern province of Kien Giang was the sixth best tourist island in Asia as voted by Condé Nast Traveler Magazine’s readers.

With an overall score of 89.77 out of 100, Phu Quoc Island ranked behind Boracay in the Philippines, Bali in Indonesia, Koh Samui and Phuket in Thailand and Langkawi in Malaysia at the 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards.

The rest of the top 10 were Sri Lanka Island, Palawan in the Philippines, Okinawa and Ryuku Islands in Japan and Phi Phi Islands in Thailand.

  • Phu Quoc is renowned for its production of fish sauce, an indispensable Vietnamese condiment, and home to high-end resorts and casino complexes.
  • It has gained popularity after the government allowed 30-day visa free entry in 2014.
  • In 2019, before Covid-19 hit the country, the island received over five million visitors, including 541,600 foreigners.
  • More than 240,000 readers submitted responses rating their travel experiences for the 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards.
  • The awards are the longest-running recognition of excellence in the travel industry, recognizing the world’s very best hotels, resorts and destinations.
