Air Macau has said it will resume flights to Japan and Vietnam next week after a hiatus of nearly three years due to Covid-19.

“It’s the first time for Air Macau to resume international flights since the start of the pandemic… representing a breakthrough for Macau to restore connectivity with other countries,” the carrier said in a statement.

According to Air Macau, a round-trip flight between Macau and Hanoi, capital of Vietnam, will begin on every Wednesday starting from 12 October, while a round-trip flight between Macau and Tokyo, capital of Japan, will also begin on every Thursday starting from 13 October.

“Following the resumption of these two international flights, Air Macau could help further facilitate the friendly exchanges between Macau and Vietnam and Japan, strengthening the flow of people, goods and culture between Macau SAR and these two countries,” the statement read.

In addition, Air Macau will also resume a round-trip flight between the city and Taipei every Tuesday starting from 1 November.

The city has so far only maintained a quarantine-free travel arrangement with Mainland China, Macau’s largest feeder market, since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020.

Individuals coming from the non-Greater China region, including residents and travellers, have to undergo seven days of hotel quarantine and three days of self-health management upon arrival to Macau.
